Rebel Ridge (2024)

Starting this year with Rebel Ridge, honestly this is only on my radar because of Aaron Pierre being cast as John Stewart in the upcoming Green Lantern show, and I didn’t realize he voiced young Mufasa in that movie also this year. That being said, I’m 2/2 on Aaron Pierre performances and his powerful acting has me smitten along with his beautiful eyes.

The opening scene really hits you and when you think that the story is going to be about one thing, it really shifts into a more layers that are just as entertaining as they are confusing. The script isn’t as under the surface as it probably begs you to believe it is, instead it is really character driven. Also, a lot of this movie is just the first Rambo movie. I do think that the movie suffered from covid and the writing strike since it’s production dates to 2019. I personally think that Pierre carries here. Just like in Mufasa, he’s a quiet leader, very suited for the role. Overall, this movie is enjoyable, and the action scenes are great.

I do feel like Rebel Ridge drags on a little too much, there was times where I thought the movie could end but it kept going. The actual ending, however, is satisfying even if it does feel a tad unearned.
