His Three Daughters (2024)

A very interesting screenplay and concept. It’s a very real story but it probably won’t hit the right feelings unless this situation is something that you have personally gone through. His Three Daughters presents a tale of sisters coming together to be there for their father for his last moments on this world.

Den of Thieves (2018)

I gotta say, the concept of this movie is pretty generic. The cast puts an interesting spin on things, you have a cast that fits the bill to a tee for this action heist genre. It’s a big draw. You see the trailer and it really gives off a believable impression that this would be an action-packed thriller of a ride that has heart pulsing adrenaline rushes. It’s part of the draw honestly. Unfortunately, this falls short of the groundwork that it appears to lay a foundation for.

Perfect Blue (1997)

Any time you see a list of top animated or anime movies, Perfect Blue is up there. Growing up, I would see some marketing here and there, and as the 2010’s rolled around and nostalgia bait was at its apex, I continued to see this film. After finally having time to see it, I can totally see where all the praise is coming from.

Juror #2 (2024)

I think it’s safe to say that Nicholas Hoult has become easily one of my favorite actors, not just on his acting prowess alone, but the fact that I just like most of the movies that he’s in. Looking up his filmography, I didn’t even realize I’ve seen him in more things that I initially realized, I’ve seen a ton of his voice over work as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up being one of the top actors by the end of the 2020’s. For Juror #2 I love what he brings to the table, literally and figuratively. They show early on of his unreliable narrator adjacent role and that he’s just a product of unfortunate circumstances that are strung together by a single poor decision. His quiet anxiety and underlying vigilantism is done with such a subtle undertone that he just comes across as weird and uncomfortable, totally works for the character of Justin Kemp. He’s a good guy struggling with the reality that is set in motion.

Emilia Perez (2024)

Been having this on my watchlist since release, outside of hearing some chirpings of Selena Gomez’s Spanish and some backlash from the LGBT community, I really knew next to nothing about this film. I recognize that this is a trans story, and I find it to be riveting on a lot of levels.

Rebel Ridge (2024)

Starting this year with Rebel Ridge, honestly this is only on my radar because of Aaron Pierre being cast as John Stewart in the upcoming Green Lantern show, and I didn’t realize he voiced young Mufasa in that movie also this year. That being said, I’m 2/2 on Aaron Pierre performances and his powerful acting has me smitten along with his beautiful eyes.

Flow (2024)

Even though there’s no dialogue, everything else about this beautiful film is heightened to a point that it makes you feel so strongly about what is happening. There’s no love story but it has drama, friendship, comedy, hell there’s even a gut wrenching fight scene. Flow is a very cute & riveting journey. In a year filled with Pixar & Dreamworks home runs, Flow’s animation doesn’t really shimmer the same amount of fire as those movies but at most likely a quarter of the budget and even less marketing, for Flow to even be in the conversation of great animated movies for me is an absolute marvel.

Nosferatu (2024)

Robert Eggers really took a tall task on in remaking this movie in my opinion. The OG Nosferatu from 1922 is literally taught in film classes because of it being such an iconic staple of not just silent film, but in the history of film in general. Now, in a way this movie needed to be made because there’s not many people that can stomach a silent film nowadays. So I’m ecstatic that this movie exists.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)

Sonic 3 is my favorite video game movie. It really has everything you would want in a video game movie, I would call it the closest thing to a perfect video game movie with having the perfect blend of entertainment for all ages.

Mufasa: The Lion King (2024)

Mufasa is a movie that I was really excited for, to me, the original Lion King is my favorite movie of all time. I love everything Lion King so I may be biased here in reviewing this movie. Personally I have no problem with the realistic look that they incorporated for the remake, so consequentially I don’t mind it here either. In fact, I feel like it does it better here and has the animals express themselves more through their faces more so adds more emotion to the scenes.

Kraven the Hunter (2024)

Guys… what are we even doing here? How was any part of this movie deemed, in any form of faction, releasable to the general public? No one wants these movies to suck, real film makers put in hard work and time into making films and most people are just doing their job… but COME ON….

Moana 2 (2024)

With a successful franchise in Moana, it makes sense for a sequel to exist. But knowing that this was supposed to be a tv show and then transformed into a film during production was detrimental to the quality of the final product. At 100 minutes with about roughly 90 minutes of story, you can feel certain story and cliff hanging elements happening every 20-30 minutes. For my experience, it affected the pacing. A lot of scenes were rushed, and the new supporting cast was underdeveloped in my opinion. If this movie was a developed as a film from the get-go, then the new character count would have been reduced.

Gladiator II (2024)

With such distance between this movie and the previous. I do like that the plot went the route of having the same amount of time surpass. It makes it feel like you’ve grown with the lure if you were there to experience the first movie. The movie also does enough so that you don’t really have to see the first movie to really be entuned with the story in my opinion.

Red One (2024)

This review comes from someone that really loves The Rock and his movies, I know the easy thing to do is just hate on him now, but to say that his movies are unwatchable is an overreaction. Red One doesn’t offer anything new, but it’s still a fun sleigh ride.

Anora (2024)

Was definitely interested into this movie well before the hype, just wasn’t available near me until recently. I am happy that smaller marketed movies like this get some hype, good movies deserve to be pushed.
