I gotta say, the concept of this movie is pretty generic. The cast puts an interesting spin on things, you have a cast that fits the bill to a tee for this action heist genre. It’s a big draw. You see the trailer and it really gives off a believable impression that this would be an action-packed thriller of a ride that has heart pulsing adrenaline rushes. It’s part of the draw honestly. Unfortunately, this falls short of the groundwork that it appears to lay a foundation for.
This movie had no business being over 2 hours. So much slow pacing story beats that didn’t need time, with so many characters if intrigue not given any depth at all. Besides Gerald Butler as Nick, no one is given much light of day. There’s not even a cool montage showing things from much of a different perspective. The ending tries it’s best to give you an a-ha moment but ironically gives those mere moments of screen time in such a slow paced film. Even the final showdown drags on waaaaay too long.
At the end of the day, this movie is a lot of fluff, cool shooting scenes that cover a hallow and slow story. I only watched because I think the sequel will be good as well. Outside of a funny scene of a father talking to his daughter’s prom date, I found this movie boring for almost all of the viewing.
